Gary Stiles spent his childhood and teenage years in rural New Hampshire with his summers split between working on a dairy farm in Strafford NH, camping by Bow Lake, and enjoying a variety of outdoor activities. During the school year he lived in Plaistow NH, which was a more populated area. The contrast between the freedom and harmony he felt in the country, and the uncertainty of social interaction was distinct.
In 1972 Gary met a teacher, Prem Rawat, who inspired him to practice the discipline of Self Knowledge and techniques of meditation. For the next 15 years he lived in community with fellow practitioners. To this day the practice of Knowledge is fundamental to his life.
Gary began his study of Aikido in 1976. The definition of aikido is "way of Harmony," and the techniques offer a means of self defense that disarms a hostile action and restores proper relationship.
Gary enrolled in massage school in 1989 where he was introduced to craniosacral therapy. When he started his massage practice he was exposed again to craniosacral therapy by Don Ash, a physical therapist whom he rented office space from. Within a year Gary attended Craniosacral therapy one and two, Somatoemotional Release one and two, and Advanced Craniosacral therapy one. A Year later he attended Advanced Craniosacral Therapy Two, and within another year completed his Diplomate Certification in Craniosacral Therapy.
Before retiring, Gary had a thriving private practice with Craniosacral therapy as his base, while integrating other modalities as appropriate, such as Attunment, Oriental bodywork techniques, Zero balancing, Visceral Manipulation and his keen intuitive sense of the natural manifestation of the life force into physical form. After participating in a Dolphin Assisted Therapy Program he has perused understanding dolphin/human relationship and communication, with them, in the wild through personal experience.
Besides his private practice, for 20 years he has worked with clients on a per diem basis at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Inc. whom have had brain injuries, as well as with autistic children.
Gary lived with his wife on a parcel of land inherited from his grandparents where they built a post and beam house, cut their own wood for heat, tend a vegetable garden, tour in a double sea kayak that Gary built, and commune with nature regularly. He also built a geodesic dome and aquaponics system.
Gary and his wife have since retired, sold the property and lived on a sail boat for 4 years. Where they spend the summers on the east coast and winters in the Bahamas. They intentionally connect deeply with people and the whole natural world inviting harmonious relationship with all.
They sold the sail boat and bought a home in Bulffton, South Carolina. Gary and his wife Jana continue to share their knowledge with the community here and with the International Attunement community.
